Welcome to the 2012 Southend-on-Sea Film Festival, which, with over 50 films and events, is consolidating its position as the largest film festival in Essex. I am absolutely delighted to have secured "Hard Boiled Sweets" and "Lost in Italy" for our Opening and Closing Galas. These new British films are excellent in their own right, but as they both involved location filming in Essex, with Southend making a significant appearance in "Hard Boiled Sweets", they are particularly special to me. Both screenings will be supported by many of the cast and crew, together with other special guests, and tickets are available to the public, so you'll be able to rub shoulders with the guests. You’ll also find other British independent productions, including a range of fascinating documentaries, on subjects as wide ranging as the Cockney Rejects, football supporters movement the ‘casuals’, independent record shops – and Morris dancing! The Festival Fringe has expanded this year and now stretches for a full two weeks. Truly, there should be something for everyone! The Festival Team and I look forward to seeing you.
